Juvenile Justice Commission Issues "Call to Action"
For some time, the Juvenile Justice Commission has been concerned about the lack of placements for a small group of youth with complex needs. Given that the lack of appropriate placement for the high acuity youth is seen by the Juvenile Justice Commission as a long-standing problem, the Commission has issued a Call to Action. It calls for restructuring the currently in use housing solutions, so that they are fully staffed with well-trained personnel, able to meet the complex needs of the youth, and for an intensified effort to create long-term homes for them. The Commission has long recognized that the latter intensified effort is a challenge that extends beyond DFCS. Therefore, the Commission continues to recommend a convening of stakeholders to find a solution.
