The Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, Proudly Welcomes Judge Christopher Van Meir Following Oath of Office Ceremony
SAN JOSÉ, CA (May 23, 2025): The Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, is proud to announce that Christopher Van Meir has officially taken the oath of office and joined the bench as a Judge of the Santa Clara County Superior Court. The oath was administered during a ceremony held today, May 23, 2025, marking the beginning of Judge Van Meir’s judicial service following his appointment by Governor Gavin Newsom.
Judge Van Meir brings nearly two decades of legal experience and a deep-rooted commitment to public service. Prior to his work in Santa Clara County, he served as a Deputy Public Defender in Monterey County from 2013 to 2018, and in Placer County from 2006 to 2013. Throughout his career, Judge Van Meir has exemplified dedication to due process, fairness, and the integrity of the legal system.
Judge Van Meir earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Jacqueline M. Arroyo.
Presiding Judge Julie A. Emede highlighted the new addition to the bench, stating, “Judge Van Meir brings invaluable trial experience and a commitment to justice. His years of service as a public defender offer a critical perspective, and we are honored to welcome him as a colleague on the bench.”
