Court Expands Access to Free Child Care Services at Two Courthouse Locations
SAN JOSÉ, CA (November 20, 2025): The Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara reminds families that free, professional child care services are available at two courthouse locations — the Family Justice Center Courthouse (FJCC) in San José and the South County Courthouse in Morgan Hill.
In partnership with Catalyst Community, these Children’s Waiting Rooms provide a safe and engaging environment for children while parents or guardians attend to court business in the courthouses. Each space is staffed by trained childcare professionals and equipped with age-appropriate toys, games, and art activities designed to help children feel comfortable and supported.
“The Children’s Waiting Rooms are an important part of our commitment to access to justice,” said Presiding Judge Julie A. Emede. “When parents know their children are in good hands, they can better focus on their court matters. We’re proud to provide this supportive service in collaboration with Catalyst Community.”
The service is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Both waiting rooms follow a strict registration and safety process: each child and guardian receive matching wristbands, and children are released only to the adult wearing the corresponding band.
Children must be ages 2–12, in good health, and fully potty-trained. Each child may attend for up to 4 hours per day, 3 times per week, and no more than 12 hours per week.
Hours and Locations:
- Family Justice Center Courthouse (FJCC) — 201 N. First Street, San José, CA 95113
- South County Courthouse — 301 Diana Avenue, First Floor, Morgan Hill, CA 95037
