Family Justice Center Courthouse Will Shut Down Generator for the Weekend

SAN JOSÉ, California (April 26, 2024)Beginning at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2024, in consideration of the neighbors around the Family Justice Center Courthouse (FJCC), Court Administration will temporarily shut down the generator currently powering the FJCC for the weekend until Monday, April 29, at 6:00 a.m.

On March 4, 2024, the “power bus” that bridges the PG&E transformer to the FJCC failed. A critical part required to repair the equipment was ordered but was not expected to be delivered for approximately 4-6 weeks. To reinstate the Family, Dependency, Treatment Court and Traffic operations heard at the FJCC, the Court was required to install a generator, which began powering the FJCC on March 7. Unfortunately, that generator failed on April 15, 2024, and another generator was installed and began running on April 16, 2024. Court Administration understands that the generator installed on April 16 is louder and sincerely apologizes for disruptions caused to the surrounding neighborhood.

The Court received the required part and repaired the power bus on April 20, 2024. PG&E must now reconnect power to the FJCC so that the generator can be removed. The Court is in daily communication with PG&E to schedule the reconnection, but no date has been scheduled. The public’s understanding and patience are greatly appreciated as a resolution is reached.
