Santa Clara County Superior Court Launches E-Notice Option for Self-Represented Litigants

SAN JOSÉ, Calif. (July 1, 2025):  The Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, is making it easier for self-represented litigants to stay informed about their court cases with the launch of a new e-notice option.

Beginning immediately, individuals involved in Family, Probate, Civil, Small Claims, or Juvenile Dependency cases can opt to receive important court notices by email rather than through traditional mail. This effort complies with new legislation (CCP 1010.6(d)) that takes effect on 7/1/25 and aims to improve access to justice and streamline communication with the public.

Notices eligible for electronic delivery include, but are not limited to:

  • Notice of Status Conference
  • Notice of Hearing
  • Notice of Case Reassignment
  • Notice of Change of Venue

“Our goal is to provide more timely and convenient communication options,” said Presiding Judge Julie A. Emede. “Receiving court notices electronically helps litigants stay updated, avoid missed deadlines, and reduce delays in their cases.”

To sign up, self-represented litigants must complete a consent form and provide a valid email address. The form can be accessed by scanning a QR code available on informational flyers or by visiting the Court’s dedicated webpage at https://www.scscourt.org/general_info/e-notice/e-notice.shtml. Completed forms may be filed in person at the Clerk’s Office or submitted electronically via e-filing.
